Spoonhill is a downhill walking and mountain biking trail that will test your patience in wet conditions. The clay surface is rutted and uneven and gets extremely slippery after rain.
The first part can be substituted with 491 (more of an all-weather track preferred by most riders).
Towards the end of the trail you have two options: ride straight down a steep chute, or turn left down some heavily-rutted switchbacks.
If you don't want to complete the whole trail, turn right onto Ngā Tuna which will take you on to the Wetland Loop and down to the Waiu Street carpark.
Be aware of others using the track. It is shared with walkers and downhill bikers.
There are regular bus and train services to Wainuiomata and the surrounding areas. Timetables are available from the Metlink website.
